All Summer Session students have paid a health fee as part of the student fee and are eligible for medical and Counseling, Alcohol & Other Drug Assistance and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) care, as well as Health Outreach, Promotion and Education (H.O.P.E.) services at Rutgers Health Services.  There is no student health insurance coverage (referrals to specialists or emergency room visits) associated with the health fee unless the student was covered in the previous spring semester.  Medical Services mayaccepts private health insurance for third party billing.  Please bring your health insurance card(s) to campus.

Medical and Pharmacy Services

The Hurtado Health Center is staffed by a variety of health care professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses.  A wide range of services are provided including general primary care (e.g., physical exams, treatment of common problems such as colds, vomiting, skin problems like acne and infections, accidents and sports related injuries, and chronic illness) and gynecology. For further information on charges, see http://health.rutgers.edu/services/health-fees-and-costs.

For urgent medical advice when the health center is closed, call the RHS ADVICE NURSE  LINE at 1-800-890-5882 or go to http://health.rutgers.edu/nurseline.htm. This is not for life-threatening emergencies.  In case of emergency, call the Rutgers University Police Department or 911 (from an outside line).

Pharmacy services are available at the Rutgers Health Center Pharmacy located in the Hurtado Health Center. The Rutgers Pharmacy is a full-service retail pharmacy offering prescription services and a full-range of over-the-counter and personal care products at competitive prices.  Most prescription plans are accepted.

The Hurtado Health Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm for medical services and from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for pharmacy services (ext. 219).

Counseling, Alcohol & Other Drug Assistance and Psychiatric Services (CAPS)

Counseling, Alcohol & Other Drug Assistance and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) offers short-term psychological counseling, crisis intervention, psychiatric consultation and evaluation, and alcohol and substance abuse treatment programs. Students may seek help for a wide range of reasons including difficulty with motivation or concentration on academic work, depression, anxiety, concern about their own substance use or that of someone they are close to, and difficulty in relationships with friends or family.

CAPS offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Appointments may be made by calling (732) 932-7884.  Further information is available at http://health.rutgers.edu.
