Science and Technology in Ancient Greece and Rome
Explore the origin of modern-day science and technology in this online humanities course. Students will learn the roots of the alphabet, numbers, western medicine, and the people behind these great discoveries. Students will understand how people in ancient cities farmed, obtained clean drinking water, treated sickness and the impact those techniques had on science and technology today.
Course instructor, Dr. Serena Connolly’s research is in ancient science and technology. Specifically in how rulers can use technology as a political tool. Dr. Serena Connolly especially appreciates having the opportunity to engage students in applying their scientific knowledge to a historical period and finding resonances with the present.
This course is online and fulfills a core curriculum requirement in Historical Analysis (HST). Specifically goals I and k. No prior knowledge is required, and students' STEM backgrounds will be beneficial.
