Teaching Techniques and Practices for the Improvement of Oral Proficiency
In this workshop-style hybrid course students will have the opportunity to focus on methods and strategies for the refinement of oral proficiency. Teachers will improve Spanish Oral Proficiency while they learn strategies and techniques that they can use in their classroom.
In addition, they will explore the role of technology to attain this goal and apply their knowledge by creating activities and tasks that are age- and context-appropriate, following proficiency-oriented protocols, reinforcing communicative competence and developing of 21st century skills.
Course instructor Dr. Celinés Villalba teaches Methodology of Teaching and Research for graduate students, as well as Spanish Oral Proficiency Labs for major and minors at Rutgers University. From 2008-2013 she was a certified Oral Proficiency Interviewer and WPT Rater. She is the Spanish Language Coordinator for her department, and is currently working on several projects including the developing of a series of online courses focusing on Spanish for the Professions.
